FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Competing in a rescheduled doubleheader against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, the Nova Southeastern softball team fell twice on Wednesday evening at the AD Griffin Sports Complex. In a marathon 10-inning game one, the Sharks came up short, 4-0, before falling 3-0 in game two.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE – 10 INNINGS):

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 10TH | After nine full innings of scoreless play, the Sharks and the Sailfish were forced to use international tie breaker rules, placing a runner on second base to start the 10th inning. With Emma Gipson at second and after Janie McCloskey walked, a Shark error allowed PBA to load up the bases. Their next batter, Katherine Budnovich, sent a base-clearing triple to deep right center, giving PBA a 3-0 lead. Faith Allen used an BRI-single to left center to score Budnovich to make it 4-0, representing the final run of the game.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks were limited to just two hits, which were recorded by Sam Sisco (1-for-3) and Reece Martin (1-for-3).
- Despite fighting for 10 full innings, Emily Hess was given the loss, allowing four runs (2 ER) on nine hits. She struck out four with two walks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Sharks have not played 10 innings or more since April 7, 2018, a 13-inning 2-4 loss against Florida Tech.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME TWO):
FINAL: Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 3 (W: C. Arturo, 4-6), Nova Southeastern Sharks 0 (L: E. Hess, 4-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 1ST | Unlike the first game, the Sailfish scored right away as Meredith Milam grounded out to the Shark third baseman,
Samantha Burke, but allowed enough time for Briana Rodriguez to score to make it 1-0.
TOP 3RD | With two outs and a runner on first, an error by the Sharks allowed the Sailfish to add another run before an RBI-single by Milan scored another for a 3-0 PBA advantage.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- The Sharks were once again held to just two hits, collected by Alexis Smith (1-for-3) and Kerstyn Shaw (1-for-1). Shaw was also walked twice.
- Mikayla Johnson was saddled with the loss after 7.0 innings of work, allowing three runs (0 ER) on four hits with one strikeout.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Two hits are the lowest number of hits the Sharks have tallied all season. Their previous low was four hits against Florida Southern on April 14.

The Sharks will head 30 minutes north to Boca Raton on Friday afternoon to play the Lynn Fighting Knights. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
